Understanding the Term “Indigent” in Oklahoma Criminal Law

Indigent:

in criminal law it means that the defendant or appellant is without the funds to pay for a lawyer or the exepnses associated with a criminal case, such as transcripts and expert witnesses.

To be found “indigent” by a court a person typically must submit a “pauper's affidavit” to a court. The “pauper's affidavit” contains information such as the defendant's income, expense, assets and debts.
